Why the name Kinrise? In short it translates as community rising. Our vision is to play our part in the renewal of UK cities by creating spaces that inspire and enable. We look at the world through four lenses; human, social, environmental and financial. These perspectives drive our approach to our renovations, partnerships and communities across our portfolio.

The Company

Kinrise is an award-winning investment company (est. 2015) focused on reimagining and restoring iconic buildings to their former glory. Our spaces are purposed to host freelancers in need of a desk for the day through to global companies needing a home for a decade.

Samuel Lawson Johnston

Managing Partner

Samuel is focused on investment strategy, management and design at Kinrise. He has worked in UK commercial real estate for 18 years, with former roles as an Investment Director and Partner at Cording Real Estate Group (now Edmond De Rothschild Real Estate).

He is also a trustee of Charity:Water and Saint Church (Hackney), and co-founded eyewear brand Finlay London.

George Aberdeen

Managing Partner

George is focused on investment management, operations and asset management at Kinrise. George has worked in UK commercial real estate for 18 years, starting his career at Knight Frank Investment Management and then became an Investment Director of FORE Partnership.

He is also President of Field Lane charity, which has been helping vulnerable people since 1841.

KILIAN KLEINE

Investment Director

Kilian’s focus is on acquiring and asset managing our buildings to reimagine and restore them to their former glory. Prior to joining Kilian worked at FORE Partnership, a multi-family office. He worked across the entire investment lifecycle, executing investment strategies in the UK and Germany. Kilian also gained experience at Eastdil Secured and architecture firm Fletcher Priest, where he worked on delivering the award-winning Angel Court Bank development.

 
 

CAL TAYLOR

Head of Marketing

Cal’s focus is to lead on the positioning and marketing of our buildings across UK cities, creating bespoke brands for each asset and assist in filling them with tenants, partners, operators and life. Cal also leads on our partnerships across health, culture and impact. Prior to joining Kinrise, Cal worked as a Strategy and Insights Consultant leading large organisations in setting out strategies for optimising their digital services to create impact.

Rebecca Jenkins

Executive Assistant

Rebecca’s primary focus is to enable the administrative running of the business whilst managing the activity of the co-founders. Prior to joining, Rebecca worked for the board of directions of ME Developments, a residential property developer based in the South-West of England.

LAURA BOYLE

Asset Manager

Laura’s primary focus is on acquiring and asset managing our buildings to reimagine and restore them to their former glory. Prior to joining Kinrise, Laura worked at Thackeray Estates, a privately owned property company focused on breathing new life into the High Street. Laura also gained experience at BNP Paribas Real Estate, where she spent time within their International Investment Team, focusing on capital import to the UK from the Middle East and Europe.

Oleg Krysa

Head of Compliance, Finance and Operations

Oleg’s primary focus is to ensure compliance with the Financial Conduct Authority, as well as oversee financial reporting and operations. Prior to joining, Oleg worked at FORE Partnership, where he was responsible for all investor reporting, managing the firm’s third parties as well as being the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer.  Prior to that, Oleg worked with multiple family offices as well spending 3 years as a Management Accountant at The Office Group, the co-working operator backed by Blackstone.

James Graham

Investment Associate

James' focus on acquiring and asset managing our buildings. Prior to joining, James worked at MARCOL, a pan-European real estate investment firm, with a focus on operationally intensive real estate strategies. James started his career as a Management Consultant at an FTSE 100 company.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Michael W. Cook

Advisory Board

Michael Cook is the Founder, CEO, and Co-CIO of SouthernSun Asset Management, Inc. (1989).  Michael serves on the Advisory Council of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee, and the boards of Cave Pictures Publishing, Omeq Medical and Thriving Cities Group, He is also an Associate Fellow and member of the Principal’s Circle at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford and co-founder of Blackbay Global Advisory.

 

Simon Pillar

Simon is a Founder and Managing Director of Pacific Equity Partners (PEP), the largest private equity manager in Australia and New Zealand. PEP’s business comprises buyout, value-added infrastructure and structured credit funds. Simon chairs the firm’s Executive and Operating Committees. Prior to PEP, Simon was a partner with Bain & Company in Singapore and Sydney. Simon also previously worked in the USA with Goldman Sachs and consulting firm The LEK Partnership. He has worked across a broad range of industry sectors as a consultant and investor, and has served as a director of a private and public companies ranging from consumer foods to cinemas to financial & business services. In addition to his roles at PEP, Simon also serves as a trustee on a number of charity boards.

Mark MILLAR

Advisory Board

Mark Millar is the founder of Propago Real Estate, a UK investment and asset management business. Mark has over three decades of experience in the investment markets in both an advisory capacity and in fund management most recently as Head of UK for Edmond De Rothschild REIM. Since co-founding his first business in 1991, Mark has transacted on more than £4.0bn of acquisitions and realisations of commercial property. This experience gives him a deep understanding of the UK market, deal sourcing/origination, transaction management/execution and utilisation of debt. He is a member of the RICS, the IPF and sat on the Investment and Risk Committee of Edmond De Rothschild REIM.

PETER DOYLE

Advisory Board

Peter Doyle served as CFO and Head of the Family Office at The Grosvenor Estate until 2018. Prior to that Peter worked at KPMG, including 16 years as a partner in the London office and latterly as Head of Financial Services. Peter is a Governor at Eltham College, a Trustee at Wycliffe Hall Oxford and chairs the Black Stork Charity, formed to build the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre. He serves as a member of the Audit Committee at the University of Cambridge. Peter serves on the advisory board of Kinrise.

 

ILARIA CHAN

Advisory Board

Ilaria is currently the Group Advisor to Grab (Southeast Asia's most valuable technology company), focusing on advancing diplomacy, thought leadership and social impact reach. Prior to this role, she served as a Corporate Finance executive and helped drive Grab's $5 billion Series H fundraise - the largest in the history of Southeast Asia. Ilaria was formerly an Executive Director at the Sales & Trading division of Goldman Sachs New York, focusing on Asia Equities. She is currently also a global keynote speaker, serves on the Board of Trustees of humanitarian organizations CareForChildren and Emancipaction, an Operating Advisor to Owl Ventures (largest Education Tech focused venture capital fund in the world), an advisory committee member to GlobalSF's Women Empowerment Initiative.

Dr. Mary Johnstone-Louis

Advisory Board

Dr. Mary Johnstone-Louis is Director of the Ownership Project and a Senior Research Fellow at Said Business School, University of Oxford. Mary researches, teaches, and builds programmes on how business leaders design strategy around areas of public good. Her current focus is on how ownership influences impact and sustainability. She is Head Tutor for Oxford’s Leading Sustainable Corporations Programme a World Economic Forum Global Future Council Fellow and Chair of the Board of B Lab UK. She has worked on five continents including fieldwork in Bangladesh, South Africa, and across Latin America.

Reuben Coulter

Advisory Board

Reuben Coulter is Partner at Ignis Global, Senior Advisor to Faith Driven Investor and a Senior Fellow at Belmont University. Prior to this, he was CEO of Transformational Business Network, a global impact investment network, and Associate Director for Africa at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. He has served as a trustee of Bristol City Funds, a place-based impact fund and was Chair of the Irish Humanitarian Committee. He completed an Executive Masters in Leadership with Wharton, Colombia, London and INSEAD Business Schools and a Masters in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
